About Fiona Staniland

Fiona has been practising yoga for 15 years and teaching and running retreats since 2007. Students are drawn to her warmth, her sense of fun and her inclusive approach which de-mystifies yet stays firmly rooted in the ancient roots of the practice, making it relevant for today’s demanding lifestyles.

Fiona teaches Vinyasa Flow with a strong focus on alignment and breath and finding balance between strength and flexibility. Throughout class students will be encouraged to nurture their inherent grounding and centring energies and a sense of expansion that can be applied well beyond their yoga mats.

Fiona is also a singer, actress and show producer. Initially drawn to yoga’s physical benefits she now has a deep belief in yoga’s ability to transform our lives by living in awareness. Whether we are practising at the level of awareness of our bodies, of our minds, of others, or of our oneness with the universe and beyond - a regular practice will leave us feeling open to possibility.

Training

Fiona is accredited with the British Wheel of Yoga and trained at TriYoga under the well balanced tutelage of Joey Miles (an Ashtanga devottee) and Anna Ashby (an Iyengar inspired Hatha approach who practices Siddha Yoga Meditation).

Fiona's classes draw on her 15 years of study with some of the world’s most renowned teachers including David Swenson (Ashtanga), Sarah Powers (Yin Yang), David Life and Sharon Gannon (Jivamukti) and Sri Dharma Mittra (Dharma Yoga).

My Classes

Depending on duration classes generally being with Pranayama (breathing) to gently bring us to our practice followed by Sun Salutations to warm up our bodies. Then follows a well-rounded class of Asanas (postures) which can be learned by students to take home with them for home practice. This beautiful flow sequence will include standing postures to build strength, twists to cleanse, forward bends to stretch and calm, balances to strengthen the core, backbends to energise and inversions to stimulate the lymphatic system and glands. We will finish each day with a restorative sequence and Savasana. Finally in Meditation we will cultivate stillness of the mind. Students will leave feeling firmly rooted and energised in their bodies, whilst being calm and uplifted in spirit.
